In order to keep the Larwood-Shaw Memorial Swimming Pool open for our community and surrounding communities, the Board of the Swimming Pool announced a major fund-raising initiative to replace the existing pool’s foundation and liner. The present facility was opened to the public in 1996 and has served the area for over 21 years….a great feat for an outdoor swimming pool. Time has taken its toll on the swimming pool, and the major restoration will ensure its usability for years to come. The committee has stated this substantial but necessary project is targeted to be completed within 4-5 years.
Porcupine Credit Union stepped up to the task of kick-starting the fund-raising efforts, in keeping with their strong commitment to supporting Community Projects. As General Manager Fred Townley-McKay stated – “One of our focuses is doing what we can to help keep our community vibrant and attractive. I immediately recognized a great role for the Credit Union to play to help keep Porcupine Plain a desirable community for young families to want to live in. Dollars spent today will help keep our community current and viable, and will pay big dividends in the future.”
